I like much of this cottage that designer Matthew Carter did-- particularly his use of rich brown, not a cliche warm-weather color! Oh, he's got plenty of tropical white too, but together I think they're striking. I like the whimsical staircase with aqua painted stripe, too:
This is my favorite room, as a matter of fact, b/c of that chocolate-drenched wall. Is it too dark for you? I find it tempered enough, with the light ceiling, trim, accessories, etc.
He goes white in the living room, but with those punchy aforementioned brown, and also blue and rose accents. Love the pillows and cozy armchairs.
Mellow traditional lantern contrasts with modern tulip table.
Bookcase corner shows more browns and tawny shades.
I'll take that retro Smeg toaster, thank you very much.
I just love this 'pecky' wood in the bath-- it's found in other areas of the house too.
There's that same wood, on patio ceiling.
As you can see, he brought the house's color palette-- ivory, brown, rose and blue-- seamlessly into the snug bedroom too.
Timeless tropical respite...

I do like this uplifting cottage.
I don't hate the brown wall at all but personally would change the drapes to a solid off white. I am not a fan of patterned drapes so I would change all to solid off white. I think there is enough going on in these rooms and the pattern drapes take it too far for me.
I would remove a few things to give it a more airy feel.
I think my favorite room is the bath....I love it.

So beautiful! I do love that chocolate brown, so deep and rich, and it takes tropical or coastal out of the cliche zone into something classic yet new and fresh with the accent colors. Wonderful.

I like most of it and I hope the cottage is located in the Bahamas. My two favorite spots are the aqua stairs and the small kitchen.

I'm not much for the beach/seaside themes, so I could live with this for a vacation home, but not more than that. Don't like all the exposed pipes in the bathroom.

My favorite rooms are the patio, minus the ceiling. I don't like that ceiling design. I also like the bedroom, but I'd prefer solid curtains. The last photo of the sitting area and view are lovely.
I don't mind the color brown with the white, but there's too much clutter for me. I don't like all the open shelves in the kitchen or the wall treatment and exposed pipes in the bathroom.

This is really pretty, and I do like the chocolate walls, but I would remove some things from the room, and I am finding it a little too much.....I too, like solid color drapes, I don't like a lot of competing patterns in one room......Really pretty!

I find this home very appealing. I love the chairs with the fringe trim, the lovely stairway and entry hall and the brown walls filled with photos very striking. The pecky wood in the bathroom and patio ceiling are very pretty and different. All in all I do like this home and could easily be comfortable vacationing there.
