Just to add up to LED advises. It may seem incandescent is cheap, but truly it's not worth it.

Our apartment complex installed the new bulbs a couple years ago. They're so BRIGHT that many people (including me) have unscrewed a couple from chandeliers because it's almost painful.

You guys are making me feel much better about my incandescent light bulb hoarding!

The current issue of Consumer Reports says that the price of LED bulbs is dropping and that they put out a lot of light. I have never bought a CFL or an LED bulb so I cannot say one way or the other. But I sure have a boatload of incandescent light bulbs stashed away!

We did the same and they are great. The kitchen doesn't heat up the way it used to when all 5 lights are on (middle one is independent but often on at the same time). No yellow cast and great lighting.

A little more costly but worth every cent.

Same problem....my mom's half brother is in the electrical business and said to up the wattage, but then I worry about whether this is safe or whether it's a fire hazard

I'm in the hoarding camp. I have been trying to use the new bulbs but I absolutely despise them too. I'm not resistant to change at all but ugh...

I switched out all my lights from incandescent to LED last fall when the utility had some great discounts on LED light bulbs. I was astonished at the drop in my electric bill. It dropped like 15% in the winter months, just from the switch. I had tried CFLs but wasn't impressed.

But LED .. seriously impressive!
