I am going to do this in the bathroom in the home we are preparing to sell. I pulled everything out, including the horrible little vanity and was relieved to see that the vinyl went under the vanity. I am going to have a pedestal sink installed. The vinyl is in really good shape and the room is so tiny, that I believe it will work. I went on utube to see how people have tried it successfully. One person used chalk paint (I probably won't). Anyone?

@pattypeep I remember my Mom doing this with sponges creating a design. It turned out well. Is chalk paint water proof? Good luck!

@fluffysmom I don't know, but do not plan on using it. Whatever method, you must put verathane over it. One person on utube said they did theirs three years ago and it's still beautiful.

@pattypeep If it was me, I wouldn't paint it since there would be too big a risk for scratching or not covering evenly, and since the sink is being replaced, I would look at the cost of just replacing the flooring with an updated color/pattern.
And be sure to mention the updated bathroom/new flooring in your advertising.
I don't think vinyl flooring is very expensive, or if you don't want to replace, can you cover the existing flooring with vinyl tiles? I've seen the vinyl tiles (self-adhesive/peel & stick) done for an enclosed patio, and they looked really nice and it lasted for several years. They have them that look more like laminate wood flooring, not the standard 12'X12" tiles that were used in the past.

If it is a tiny area I would just replace the floor. I would question the overall upkeep and maintenance of the entire house if I saw this.
PS- most people replace pedestal sinks with sinks with storage. I am looking to replace mine now. I do not understand them.

@Abrowneyegirl I will send you a picture when it's done. No one will question the floor or the upkeep of the home. It was built in 1935 and is adorable.

@CAcableGirl2 The house I sold before my dh and I were married had solarian peel and stick tiles in the kitchen that I had installed myself years before selling. They looked good even after 10 years. I also laid sheet vinyl in two baths and a hallway by myself. The house sold in three days, so I guess it was ok. LOL

@Abrowneyegirl This is a picture of the hearth in our home that was black as the ace of spaces and I hated it. I took several leftover paints and faux painted it and then varnished over it. That was 18 years ago. The floor should turn out fine. ![]()

I would love to see it!
After seeing photos like this

It is very interesting. I would still worry about wear in a bathroom due to humidity and moisture.
If it was warrantied I would feel better.

If I was getting ready to sell my home I would replace it. I think painting it would feel tacky to a bunch of buyers.
