@wagirl I guess I'm foggy about your response to me in reference to labeling/listing box contents.
From what you originally posted, "... still have things left in a garage I rent at my current apt. Been going thru stuff in there that are mostly still in boxes, fortunately, but have no idea whats in those boxes anymore ..." I got the impression you didn't know the contents of boxes in the garage.
That's why I posted options that helped me.
Whatever.
Have a good move

@wagirl Hope the move goes smoothly and you enjoy your new place!

@wagirl I moved last year after 37 years in an apartment, to my childhood home. How much can be in a 2 BR apt? Omg, it was a lot. Never seemed like so much, but I did do my move over several weeks like you. I've made some mistakes. So many boxes, bags, totes.
I went through so much, but I hate to admit, there are still 10 or 15 boxes I've not opened. I'm going through everything this winter. In the past year, I've donated so much, but I also had a house full of my dads things. He moved to independent living after a stroke, but I felt I couldn't just throw his life away. He has been in this house 50 years. He is still living, and his health is declining, so it's been a tough year.
Add to that, my SO, his dad passed in 2023 and some of that ended up here too! Overwhelming for sure. Although our living space is getting in order, the basement is another thing. We are also doing many updates, in most rooms here.
Wishing you the best of luck! Take all the help you can get. We had no help, except the movers on moving day. They were the best! I'm 64, I hope I never have to move again. But the downsizing is underway (and has been for a year!). Good luck. Pack your strength and patience! I'm glad you have your DD to help. Good luck in your new place!

@D Kay --yes, I will do that. Most of that type of stuff will be taken over separately anyway. I will pack up my DS car with the "soft" stuff on the coming weekends and any other easy light weight stuff will go too. The moving day , will be the first night at the new place so everything will be there. And we set up the beds first thing too.

@Daisy Sunflower --see, I think the same thing too--most say well if you haven't used it in 5 years that means you don't need it--horse pucky!!!!!! I haven't seen it because I have no room for it right now!!! And good grief--it is NOT a horaders stash either----so annoying!!!!![]()
thank you!!!!!

@Puggywuggy --Where will you be moving? I am near Seattle, in Woodinville, but am moving nearby to Redmond.

@Desert Lily --ok--sorry--yes, I basically know what is in there, over all, but after many moves I am finding the labels on some are gone--- but many are still intact. So when I open those mystery boxes, I decide if they will be storage or apartment. Then I put on a label with a big S for storage or A for apartment. Trying to get all the "A" in one spot and same with the "S".

Don't make any hasty decisions about getting rid of stuff. You might regret it.
Your daughter (and other relatives) might like to have some of your stuff, too -- depending on what it is, of course.
Most of the next generation do not want or need our stuff. That is what makes downsizing so challenging. It used to be that all that stuff was just handed down, but now it needs to be taken care of by us. I have friends who just agonize about each item and it is such a waste of time. Just make quick, but not hasty, decisions. Find a good charity and let them have most of it.

@lynnie61 ---the move from my house of 35 years--not a huge place, maybe 2000 sq ft--but was a 2 story, was mammoth and I mostly moved it all on my own with very little help--the spouse decided he wanted a divorce after 47 years of marriage---so that made the move even more of a whirlwind too. I had to get rid of many things that I was not ready to part with due to where I was moving to, a much small apt. We both had no parents to deal with ---but what you mentioned about that issue had already been done years before., I would be estatic if I only had that few boxes to go thru. But now, with the new place being much bigger, I will be able to get many boxes into it now. And then move the rest to a public storage unit, where I will go thru that bunch and decide to donate, toss or maybe even sell--but not until the spring time when the weather is better. I moved from the house when I was 67,now am 71, and not quite as perky as way back then. Yes--will take any help offered.
