Found an apartment where DD and need/want to be and will get the keys tomorrow🎉🤪👍🏼----then the work begins!!! This will be the 4th time since 2019 that I've moved!!! I HATE moving--- altho I'm pretty darn good at it---but at age 71, I need a new hobby 🫤 Had a 2 story house that I moved mostly by myself and had to get rid of so much then, but still have things left in a garage I rent at my current apt. Been going thru stuff in there that are mostly still in boxes, fortunately, but have no idea whats in those boxes anymore--I've been at my present place for 5 years-- but it is coming along and I am almost to where I can call movers to move the garage stuff into a new storage unit and the rest to my new apt. The new place has alot more storage and a nice bigger kitchen. DD and I worked in the garage yesterday and it was kind of fun--she was thrilled knowing where her stuff is. Got my DS coming to help as well as my lovely SIL----even my niece and her 2 boys offered to come help--not used to that!! But will take them up on their offers. Need to be out by the 31st of Jan--gives me at least 5 weeks--I can do this---I can do this!!!! My chiro is on speed dial!!!🤪

@wagirl , It's great that you will have lots of help. It sounds like you've got this !

Good luck. I suggest you get rid of the items in your garage. If they've been in boxes for 5 years, you obviously don't need them. I moved a year ago, did a major downsizing and don't miss anything I got rid of.

@wagirl Good luck with your move. Glad you found a place that you're happy with and that it's bigger!! First and foremost, enjoy the holidays and then on to the work!

I've been in the same house for over 33 years. I dread the day I have to move.
Good for you and I'm glad you found a place that sounds nice & is close to your daughter's place of employment.
Best of luck with the move & your new home!

ITA with checking on the contents of the boxes in your garage before paying for movers and more storage fees.
Mold, mildew, bugs, mice can take it's toll.

@wagirl I've lived in 7 states & moved plenty of times.
A couple things helped me with boxes & organizing.
- I numbered each box with a Sharpee marker, and as I packed I made of list of what was inside the boxes with the matching numbers. (It was a lot of extra work but saved me a lot of time when looking for specific items)
- Another thing I tried was making a brief label of what was inside each box by writing on the outside of each box with a Sharpee marker.
Examples: "old photographs", "Johnson Bros. dishes", "Lenox stemware", "kitchen linens", "sneakers"
In a different Sharpee color, I designated which room I wanted the box moved into.
- When I used plastic bins with covers for packing, I wrote a brief label of what was inside the bin on a piece of masking tape with a Sharpee marker and taped it to the bin.
Then, I wrote the room designation in a different colored Sharpee on a separate piece of masking tape. I put a room designation tape on the top & on the side of each bin so it was easy to see while being moved.

Same as you....been in my current house 30+ years and my husband has a HUGE garage...4 bays and a bus-size bay for his work trucks.
I have nightmares about moving ![]()

I was in my townhouse for over forty years until my move to another state a couple of months ago. At the same time, selling my townhouse. Moving to a senior facility (bedroom, den, kitchen and large living room, etc. Most things went well, though very stressful. Had some help, though when others unpacked for me and put things away, I now have no idea where some of the stuff is!!!!!! Sadly, the most important box, has never been found. I'm learning to live with that.
I hope I never have to move again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I was the Queen of Moves 😌 I was ruthless with getting rid of stuff. There are only a few items that I regret donating but those can be replaced easily enough if I want.
The last move into the CCRC was a doozy. One bdrm, den, 1 1/2 bathroom, kitchen the size of a budget RV 😜and a LR/DR combo. It was a good move for us though 🙂
Good luck. I am happy that you will have helpers. Fingers crossed we do not get any snow 😳
