I admit to being new to the DIY game. I want to paint over neutral walls with a slightly darker neutral. I get the idea of priming if you're going w/ a dark color, but can someone tell me if it is really that critical to prime, and if so, does it really need to be a primer specific paint?
I have a couple of gallons of a lower grade flat paint leftover from a family member that is beige, and I just wondered (in the interest of perhaps saving some money) if the first coat could be that paint on cleaned walls, and then use my higher grade paint in eggshell for the final coat. No kids or high use issues for this particular room.
Sorry if this sounds too basic...sometimes just wonder what 'real' life DIYers do that the home improvement sites say is not good, and it ends up fine. Thanks in advance,
