Re: A PLACE FOR HOME DISCUSSIONS

[ Edited ]

@Oznell  Under Community here, there is a lengthy discussion about using ProBoardsdotcom as an alternative. It offers many features that QVC posters like. Mellyg registered a new forum. Several topics have been created at mellygproboardsdotcom, and it's looking very good. I checked the TCM community in the past and only read discussions on movies/actors/directors while there, so I don't have current info about it. You've consistently given me great headsups for excellent films.

Re: A PLACE FOR HOME DISCUSSIONS

@stevieband @Desert Lily ,  that sounds like a great option.  I will have to look into Proboards.  My problem is I am not technosavvy, so I will tend to land where it seems easiest, and I don't want to have a "large" social media presence.

The Proboards sounds like it may be a good choice for a lot of Q board people.   I signed up at TCM Forums, and did an experimental post there, with good response.  But I love knowing about other options, esp. if that one doesn't live up to expectations.  So I am going to check Proboards out too, thanks.

Re: A PLACE FOR HOME DISCUSSIONS

@Oznell  At your suggestion I checked out the TCB boards and they do look good, but I suggest you visit mellyg.proboards.com (note, this is not a link) and I think you might be impressed by what you see. She has essentially created the same forums we're used to here, although most of them are not yet very populated, understandably. You do not have to register to look.

Re: A PLACE FOR HOME DISCUSSIONS

Thanks, @stevieb ,  I've started to investigate.  You are right, it looks good.

Oh, dear, I'm registered at TCM and it looks like if I want to see and participate in the home decor stuff with our pals, I should really register at Proboards too!   I am so non-techie, and did not want to have a big online presence!  But now looks like I will have to be on two sites.

What is your opinion about the hazards -- that info on Community Care about insecure sites now has me a bit concerned...

Re: A PLACE FOR HOME DISCUSSIONS

@Oznell  Lots of home improvement stuff going on here today and I'm just wiped out. I'll take a closer look at the various options over the next few days and let you know what I think. I will say, some of these sites that are not secure become secure once you actually log in and while I don't like non-secured sites, they concern me at least a bit less when they aren't tied to shopping and hence linked up with payment and other personal information.

@Oznell

Oh Oznell, I will miss seeing you here.

I may join TCM, I may join Houzz, just so I can still read your posts.

Will I know it's you?

I guess if you don't have the same name there or one isn't able to even use a name there, I'll still recognise your writing style.

It's so light and airy, distinct and indescribably delicious!

Re: A PLACE FOR HOME DISCUSSIONS

Oh, @Lucky Charm ,  what a dear you are!

Tell you what, this has been a bit dislocating.  I've landed now at TCM Message Boards-Forums.  What do I know, but it seems like an established, uncomplicated site. It's very easy to sign up and you don't have to stick to just films.  Apparently, any topic goes, including politics, nature, anything, if you put it in General Discussions or Off-Topics.

What fun it would be to see you there!  If you join, or just go there to read, my handle is lilypond there.  I started a thread on Vintage Film Noir Influenced TV,  and when the Q chops us off, I'll probably move the ongoing "Fugitive" thread there.

But it sounds like I'll have to join Proboards too!  If only to have access to all the decorating stuff we have here, sigh.  I never wanted to be on TWO social media sites!

Hoping very much you will stay in touch, kind @Lucky Charm !

There may be a bit of a bright spot.  I started a thread in TV/Movies about the possibility of moving to the TCM forums, but further info from @Johnnyeager  reveals that it isn't necessarily restricted to discussions of old movies.

They have an "off-topic" forum, and a "general discussion" forum, in which you can stray into any topic under the sun, including presumably, home decor stuff.  It looks like we might even be able to post images.

I'm registered at Delphiforums, and posted something, but some posters are saying that parts of it are "insecure",  so I'm going to follow that discussion to see whether it's safe or not.

Anyway, it's easy to register at TCM Forums with just your email address, and I've posted there already.  I must say, the activity looks rather sluggish there-- they don't have that many new posts in some categories.

They could benefit, I believe, from our lively, actively posting crew.  So, it's something to further investigate, if still interested in social media.

@Oznell They won't know what hit them!
