Re: A Little Christmas Magic

Baba , hi ! Snow falling again today , I stopped counting inches . All I know is , there's an 8 foot snowbank near the front steps . Arghhh . Lol. Poor dh has to keep shoveling a path from cellar door around house to driveway with each storm . Seems like every other day . I can't help him either . Then shoveling out the big snow mounds in the vague shape of cars , to find the drivers door . Hoping the snowplow guy arrives in time , so dh & DS can get out for work . He's been here so often this Winter , we've paid for his 1st born's college education . Sigh . However, temps going to 40's tomorrow so lots will melt . The news folks said to prepare for flooding by Friday. Feast or famine . It must be the same where you live , right ? Misery loves company . Smiley Wink

Re: A Little Christmas Magic

Baba , I remember those litle wire trees you're talking about . Yes, they had seasonal decorations you could buy . Or make your own . You mentioned your DS loved that when he was little & that reminded me of my DS too . I did lots of decorating for each holiday when DS was young , like you said you did . Do you remember a catalog called CURRENT , back in the 70's & 80's ?? They sold paper crafts , greeting cards , stationary , kitchen memo pads, and cardboard/paper decorations for every holiday ......Easter , St. Patrick's Day , Valentines ........I once bought a paper mobile for Easter , to hang from our apartment's kitchen ceiling lamp above the table . Simple , inexpensive and DS & his friends liked the decorations . They also sold decorative pens , desk sets , etc. ........and they'd discount prices based on the more you bought . I'll have to google them .....haven't seen a catalog in many years .

Re: A Little Christmas Magic

Baba, we ended up putting the slim alpine christmas tree away . Smiley Sad .......had to put an electric fireplace stove in the dining room, where I'd wanted to put the tree & use it as a winter theme tree . That room was getting cold from these low temps , and the stove warms it up nicely . Yesterday I decided to change out the entryway table Xmas decor , to a winter theme . I have a VPH birdcage lamp on the table & a mirror on the wall . I'm using a vintage , white crocheted doily / table scarf on top . I kept the 2 plain mini trees from Xmas ( 5" tall plain wire brush trees , about 50 plus years old ) , a tiny figurine of 2 children on a sled , a musical glass snow globe with 2 little girls on a sled ( was a gift from dh many years ago ; plays White Christmas ) , a slender resin snowman wearing a top hat ( looks like porcelain ) that I love & it's more Wintry than Xmas-looking , plus 3 large pinecones scattered against the wall behind figurines .......they're about 8" long & 4" wide ..... think they're from a redwood forest that friends visited a few years ago . ........anyway , tried to keep it simple & only about Winter/snow /outdoor activities . It looks simple , & outdoorsy ; a nice fresh look after all the colorful Xmas things . Did you decide to take out that little wire tree , to do a winter theme area on a table ? ......btw, if I put our Xmas alpine tree under our covered porch for summer, the birds would build a nest in it ! Lol. The birds here are always building nests under that porch each year , because there aren't any screens . We had some but they need to be replaced . Haven't done that yet . On " the list " lol.

Re: A Little Christmas Magic

Just found the Current.com web site ! They're still in business all these years later . They have lots of the same products as years ago , along with new items like several designer lines of stationary , etc. .......back when I used to order from them , it was along with some co-workers , so we could get discounts for multiple amounts of items . They have some buy one get one free deals & other discounts , sales .

Re: A Little Christmas Magic

Hi Blueskies, LOL, I was going to mention that Current is still in business. They still send me catalogs. I get my checks from them and a few other things.

Your Winter-scape sounds so pretty. I had the white wire tree out this month with small Valentine decorations. Just pulled out my March things, little silk puffy shamrocks. Next month I will put out my Easter things. All these things I got from the store I mentioned above.

We also have those large drifts here. My dog loves to bound up the drifts and stand on top to look around the neighborhood. She enjoys the sNOw. Guess its the Husky in her. LOL

It's suppose to be 40 something here Thursday, with rain. We are also concerned about some flooding. I am sure the lake will be much higher this Spring also. Heard on they news that there is a chance of a cooler Spring because of all the ice on the Great Lakes.

Be safe.

Re: A Little Christmas Magic

Baba , the tree sounds real cute & can just see the puffy shamrocks , etc. Smiley Happy your dog does what our dog used to do .....find the highest place in the yard & survey his " domain " from there ! Lol. Aren't they funny ? Maybe it's a " Survival instinct. " ?? Looking for danger or something like that ........So you receive the Current catalogs ? Neat ! I always liked their quality . Maybe I'll order something at some point again . ........it's 40 plus here today , and going to 50's tomorrow . Watching the snow melt . Still have my BL Xmas lights on lamppost out front ; I put the battery box in 2 Ziplock freezer bags back in December . It's buried deep in the snow now . One year when I was able to get out there to remove it , the box was sitting in some water that seeped into the bag ( can't completely zip close due to wires from batt box ) .........anyway , the lights had still been going on each night anyway ! Isn't that something ? I should call a BL show & give a testimonial , lol. ...........ok, take care . Ttyl . Are you thinking of starting a Spring thread ? I dont think I will be ; need a break . I've got to get over to Kittykatkay's thread & visit . Maybe leave a pretty picture of Spring flowers . Bye for now ! take care .

Re: A Little Christmas Magic

Hi Blueskies---More cold weather here also, below 0, some sNOw. I heard, because of the ice mass' on all the Lakes, Spring might be cooler than normal.

Started putting out my Spring decor. Need some bright colors in here. LOL

This has been the third coldest Winter, about 6" less sNOw than a record. We have so much sNOw on the ground it will take forever to melt. LOL

One good thing, all the sNOw and the large frozen areas on the Lakes should help raise the depths that have been falling the last few years.
