Re: A FEW NOTABLE SITTING ROOMS

I like the Scandi one and the one immediately following it.  I don't particularly like the others.  Funny about finding pictures of two ends of the same room in different publications or issues.

Too much clutter and too many shelves. I guess it's alright if you have a maid.

All the rooms are fun to look at--but most of them have way too much clutter for me--the bold colors are ok, but too many in one room. It's hard to focus on any one thing.

Overall, despite some nice elements and a couple of appealing vignettes, these rooms hold little appeal for me, including Redd's, whose work I usually can appreciate more than his efforts here.

I'm not loving the color combinations in the first two photos. Too many different colors for me. I like the architectural details and windows. I like the color and styles of the chairs and rug, but I'm not a fan of the wall color, drapes, and sofa color.

The glass enclosed shelves in the 3rd and 4th photos remind me of my grandmother. She had a free standing shelf with glass doors that is in my home now. I actually removed the glass doors for easier access to my books. I don't like the green lamps or the artwork in that space.

The Scandinavian inspired room looks cozy, but it's too neutral for me. I need more color.

I'm not a pink person, but the 2 pink rooms are pretty. I like the furnishings &  accessories. The bright pillows add some color for me. I also like the sunroom, but I don't like the striped window treatments.

The English cottage room with the blue bookshelf looks nice. I also like the one with the warm wood shelves and Christmas tree, but I don't like the pink floor.

I don't like the gold and grey room. I just don't like warm and cool color mixes. The room with pink chairs and curtains is ok, but as I mentioned, pink is not one of preferred colors. The shelves and old tall desk she added are my favorite parts of that room.

We have 4 "sitting" rooms in our home. We use each room each day at some point. We don't have any rooms that aren't used.

We have a living room off our entry way. We sit in there during the day. Our dog likes to look out the front windows. There is a sofa, love seat, large rug, live green plants, my piano, a few tables and lamps, and a curio cabinet in that room. No TV in our living room.

We have a sunroom off the kitchen looking into our backyard. I like to read, watch TV, or nap in that room during the day and the night. It has a TV armoire, small sofa, chair and a half with ottoman, glass side table with lamp, ceiling fan & light, and a small cafe table with 2 chairs.

Our third bedroom is a small library and music room. We have bookshelves and a stereo in there with 2 comfortable recliners. I play guitar, listen to music, or read in that room.

Our last sitting area would be the basement family room with a huge TV and surround sound. My husband has it set up the way he wants with a sofas and tables for drinks and snacks. He hangs out there most nights after dinner. Sometimes I'm watching TV with him, and sometimes I'm in the sunroom watching something different.

Sorry, this post got so long. I hope everyone has a place somewhere in their homes that they love to sit, relax, watch TV, and hang out in during the day.

Have a Great Day!

@wilma ,  thanks for describing all your options!  Lucky you--  I'd love to have a sunroom and a library such as you describe.  Sounds like all of your sitting rooms fulfill a function perform their roles very well.

Not loving the striped sofa, and really don't like the shutters. The animal stripe accents seem cliche to me...I do like the room with the metallic touches...especially the ceiling. The slipper chair looks just like my grandmother's original Koehler slipper chair I have in my bedroom. I think the first two rooms have wonderful colors....but there is just too much stuff. One empty or open spot would be a nice reprieve. I love all the tall bookshelves. The ladder adds a special touch. There is something to love in every room...and love that you take time to share these.
