Am always happy to see an urban apartment that isn't a sterile box.   This New York living room belongs to Elizabeth Lawrence, the design partner of legendary designer Bunny Williams, so no wonder it is both elegant and livable.  It's a family apartment too, as Elizabeth has a small child.

It's all soft, and I love "soft"--   it's nice the way the varied pillows, throws, chintz and other print fabrics, and the rug, all take color cues from the art, especially the gentle wash of an abstract over the sectional couch.

A witty portrait near the window...

Mirrors are so crucial in magnifying the light in apartments.  She has an eye for pretty ceramics.

There isn't much room for a dining room evidently, but they've made the most of it.  The reclaimed wooden columns, smoky mirror panels, blue lamps, all give character.  All the wood finishes in the apartment are outstanding, as are the different woods in the Deco-looking table and the chairs.

That attention to detail is what gives the feeling of intimacy, and almost an Old World conviviality...

Speaking of "Old World"!!   Susanna Salk of "Quintessence" traveled to Paris to see the apartment of Eric Goujou.  He's the proprietor of a pottery and homewares shop called "La Tuile a Loup".

In some ways, his is the prototypical stylish Paris apartment, but I like his affinity for color, his love of ceramics and art photography.

Here's the interior of his shop, "La Tuile a Loup".   What fun to have access to all those goodies!   Love the giant basket.

How great it would be to window shop there!

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 8.05.48 AM.png

He can experiment here in the shop, with all kinds of different table settings of his design, lucky, lucky--

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 8.06.14 AM.png

Now at his apartment, his living room is light-filled.  Since he's so partial to exquisite ceramics and jars, I love the way he showcased this piece behind the couch, and in front of the window.  It makes such a sculptural impact--

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 8.13.53 AM.png

His vignettes are eye candy, like this "controlled" display of his Victorian boxes.

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 8.13.14 AM.png

I find his arrangements instructive, like the dried, tightly bound, and then splayed, stalks here.  I have similar ones, but have only ever put them in a vase.

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 8.12.43 AM.png

His art photography, of Audrey Hepburn and others, is a delight.

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 8.03.00 AM.png

Spacious dining room, with its enviable china cupboard, and ethereal vintage botanical prints.  Love the fabric and trim he used on his dining room chairs--

Looking back through French doors to the living room.  That distinctive carved wood chest, with the silver goblets and ivory lamp on it, is spectacular!

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 8.07.51 AM.png

I love all his fabric lampshades in the apartment, and the simple console arrangement here--

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 7.29.31 AM.png

And he can do all kinds of beautiful table settings, especially using the overflow from his shop!

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 8.08.12 AM.png

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 9.47.00 AM.png

But even the simplest snack is enhanced by the well-chosen wares, and the flourish of hospitality with which it is presented--

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 7.30.54 AM.png

Like this refreshment he offered upon Susanna's arrival.  That silver swirl pitcher, above and below, is gorgeous!

Screenshot 2024-04-30 at 9.49.47 AM.png

Another cool lampshade, in his bedroom.   Love his bold, artisan-looking bed linens too.

Finally, a brief glance at another well-designed, but change-of-pace apartment living room, by Young Huh.  She's another one who doesn't shy away from color.  This Philadelphia living room she did is in a more modern mode, but comfortable--

fl-youngh-philly-livingr2-129146-55mv2-1637083434.png

The exquisite coffee table is a vintage Aldo Tura showpiece.   Love the luxe, Art Deco fabrics.

Now, in the kitchen she went more contemporary than I would, but it's still striking.  I might get tired of the Cambria countertop and backsplash after a while.  The contrast of the floor with the blue lacquered cabinets and island is effective...

Re: A FEW CITY APARTMENTS....

The kitchen is the only one I like.  The others are too fussy, cluttered.  Ugh!

Re: A FEW CITY APARTMENTS....

I really like the use of color in these but don't care for a lot of the prints and furnishings except for the last one (Young Huh, I believe it was).  Even then, I'd have to change out quite a bit.

Re: A FEW CITY APARTMENTS....

Very interesting apartments!

In E. Lawrence's apt,  I want that arm chair and ottoman's green ivy fabric!  The pillows with the focal picture are so perfect!

I sort of like her dining room with the blue accent pieces.

Love Eric Goujou's use of colors!  I'd love that big basket!  I'd put it in front of my fire place!  Love his dining room and the pottery dishes!   I would love a set of hand thrown dishes for everyday!  His dining room with the Louis XV legs!  Perfection!

You would love all of the art here!  Potter after potter; you would love the juried Guild show here too!

I hope I can go this year!

Love Young Hun's colors and furniture choices the most.

I love Eric Goujou's apartment.  To me it's perfection.   I also like Eliz. Lawrence's liviing room, but don't care for the abstract above the sofa.    When I hit the Powerball I will contract Eric to decorate for me.

I like the use of color in the first few photos. I love the teal color and furnishings in the small dining room! I'm not a fan of the floral print on the chair and ottoman, but otherwise, I like that space. There's too much clutter for me in his rooms, but he has some interesting pieces.
I don't like the room with the blue and purple furniture.

Re: A FEW CITY APARTMENTS....

So interesting, thank you Oznell. I especially love the Eliz. Lawrence apartment - the colors, the furniture and the artwork in the living room are right up my alley. I'll especially take that wonderful floral chair and ottoman. Her apartment just has such an inviting feel to it.

Love the apartments, especially Eric's.  I am especially drawn to the water color painting behind the sofa in the first apartment.

Re: A FEW CITY APARTMENTS....

I like Elizabeth Lawrence's apartment.  I like soft and inviting.  I would like to see Eric's but probably would be nervous about all the wares, that I might bump into something, break something.  I would not be comfortable there but I know many would.  Young Huh's might be fascinating to visit.  It's not my style but it is for many.  It's simplicity is too simple for me.  Eric's is way over the top for me and Elizabeth's is "just right..."  like the 3 bears.  Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Baby bear.
