Since I know this will have a lot of vitriolic responses seeing the room as it is now, how about which ONE piece/item would you substitute/remove to improve the room?

Oh boy. For me, the chairs would have to go.

Would not keep one single piece of anything.

The room gives off a chill because of so much grey. The chairs make me think of the Jetsons and the couch brings me back to the 60's. Quite the mix.

First impression: Get the rental truck, STAT, and get everything out of there.

@lolakimono I would change the wall covering and its color first thing.
Unsure of what I would do next.

All right. I took another look and while I find this room to be pretty hideous and while there's virtually nothing in it I like, if I HAD to pick one thing to delete, it would be the dreadful wall covering. The room would still be awful without it, but not quite so awful as it is with it.

First I thought the chairs too but then looking around, I can't pick just one!
😬

Ha! Vitriolic is a good word.
Sometimes when decor is so bad, removing something doesn't improve it.
Decor I might see in the lobby of a cheap, sleazy, motel.
I could say the turquoise chairs, but then the room would be all dark gray, rather dismal.
Sorry, IMO, nothing removed can improve this room besides gutting it.
