STOCKING STUFFERS???

[ Edited ]

While having QVC on in the background when I work from home (nothing much on during the day)....I just can't believe the things that they are offering as "stocking stuffers"......I mean really a $27 item and with shipping and tax that makes it over $30.......Even back when my family/friends did "full tilt" and went all out on gifts, stocking stuffers were restricted to Christmas candy, maybe a $5 gift certificate to a coffee shop or fast food place, perhaps a pair of socks, lottery scratch offs.....or an inexpensive trinket....Now I realize QVC is in business to convinence us to buy things, but what QVC recommends is ridiculous for a stocking stuffer---they are showing things that some people spend on a main gift for family/friends......What do the rest of you think?  Those of you that do stockings....what do you buy and what is the max price range do you think is reaonable....or if you were to do a stocking what do you think is reasonable for a stocking gift???.......

Yes, $30 is the primary gift.  Stocking stuffers are $5 and under.

@Spurt  -  We usually keep stocking stuffers to candy, maybe a pair of socks, we may tuck in a gift card, hand lotion, a cute tee shirt, something funny; nothing that I'd constitute as a wrappable gift, but appreciated and usable items.

Our kids are 13 and 9 and our youngest still loves to get a stuffed animal peeking out of the top of his stocking.  I don't really total the items, but we have Pottery Barn stockings, which hold a surprising amount, and we probably spend $50.00 or so each to fill.

Stocking stuffers seem to have come a long way!  Back in the "dark ages" when I was a child, stocking stuffers usually consisted of a popcorn ball (remember those in the colored cellophane wrap?), an orange, a few pennies or so, and a small toy.

Oh, and always a candy cane!!!!!!

Right there with you.  Always an orange, once a dollar bill (rare) some coins, and maybe a candy bar.  I don't remember any sort of jewelry items (cheap ones, of course) but my friend did get a little bracelet once.  And I got a skate key on a blue ribbon once because I had lost mine. Smart Santa!!

Usually stockings are filled with candy( including candy canes), breath mints, a few scratch off tickets, and that is about it.  The dog has a stocking and she usually has a treat in her stocking.

Oh yes the candy cane.....and I still love popcorn balls...Target used to sell them around Halloween and Christmas, but haven't seen them recently....

And it may be considered "dark ages" but I like your selection.....back then stockings were just some extra fun....

@Spurt  I once received wooden garden stakes in my stocking.  I told Santa DH that once was enough, no more of these, lol.  He reminded me that he once received toothpaste, LOL!

@Spurt  I think I have more fun buying stocking stuffers.  Santa has put earrings, eyeliner, and all sorts of small, useful goodies in DD's stocking, things that DD would not expect to get.  When she was little, it would be candy, fancy pencils and pens, hair bands, and on and on. Smiley Happy
