If you are serving alcohol you should serve some type of food, that they don't have to pay for. They will have to drive home.

Food truck sounds fun. I've attended two weddings recently that had them. No fuss no muss...

@Mom2Dogs I'm a little confused here. Let's just assume, for a minute, that a food truck is present and that people do, in fact, have to pay for their own food from that truck. You said that people may not attend if they have to feed their whole family. So, I'm guessing a husband and wife would be bringing their children (or whatever group of people constitutes a "family").
I know I'm assuming a lot here, but if your friend has enough room to host this type of party with a lot of guests, she probably has a big house or, at least, a big yard. She's hiring a band, so she's probably not poor. I'm guessing her friends (the attendees) are in a similar financial boat as her. My point is - would buying food truck food for a family be such an expense that it would keep people from coming??
I've never been to a party like this, but I really don't think I'd mind having to pay for my own meal. The hostess can provide appetizers, drinks and dessert (if she'd like to). Sounds like it would be a fun night!

@Citrine1 Today was just a discussion on what to do....in our area there are two food trucks that we are aware of...bbq and subs. She has no idea of the cost.
Last year there were probably at least 50 people (large yard, house is average size)...everyone brought food so you can imagine there was a lot of food - table space became an issue. Alcohol is not served, she does not drink, so if you want alcohol, you bring your own.
She is concerned about not providing the food trucks for free, she is a generous person...her family member is in the band, she gets a discount on the entertainment.
We were just trying to figure out how to handle all the food that is how the snacks, dessert only issue was put on the table.
I appreciate all the comments and ideas as to a name for the event.

Sounds like the last party turned out well so I'd just repeat whatever it was.
You can rent tables for the extra food. We have a party rental company that will deliver them and pick them up.

If it starts around 7:30 or 8p.m. people can eat dinner and bring a snack. It's a lot of expense to pay a band--people shouldn't mind bringing their own snacks. To me that isn't a big deal. Bring some doritos and enjoy the evening.

@Mom2Dogs That sounds like fun! I have a small group of friends and we have traveled together at times. We call ourselves the "starfish club". Always wearing a starfish tee shirt or earrings/necklace, anything with a starfish on it. If we were putting something like this on we would call it just that ......"starfish party". Maybe call it "vintage party" and have people wear old vintage rock band tees or something like that since you have an actual band playing! Oh and yes, I'd go with the food truck thing for sure.

@Mom2Dogs I have a better understanding of the situation now. I certainly didn't mean to be flippant or disrespectful and I hope you didn't take my comments that way.
I suppose if I were the host that I, too, would feel obligated to pay for the food truck. I imagine that could be quite costly.
