I have several of these baskets and they too are well worn. Some years I have just put pots of fresh mums inside with a few pumpkins grouped in.

@panda1234 Our baskets have character, don't they? I know mine could tell a lot of good stories about everything that has been placed in them through the years.
I like your idea of putting Mums and pumpkins in the baskets. At the end of the day we will be wishing we had a lot more baskets as people post their ideas. I only have two and I don't normally use rustic containers like these but I do think they fit in with fall and Christmas filler.

@GCR18 I'll bet you already have enough stuff to do the basket. If I'm running short on greens or fall foliage I fill the bottom part of basket with old towels or anything else and finish filling with greens or fall foliage and whatever else you're decorating it with. The towels give a good surface for your decor to rest on too, more solid. I'm just cheap. LOL
NOT cheap, you're smart!!!
I do the same thing. I fill even small baskets with folded dish towels about half way or more, before adding decorative fabric, garland etc. and then the decor pieces.
Sometimes I even use boxes, covered in a matching/coordinating fabric as a riser inside a basket.
It give a lift to the things you can't get with just jamming in light things like garland or greens.

@Mominohio It just makes good sense, doesn't it? Is it still hot in Ohio? It is very hot and dry here, rain just moves around us. I hope the snow and ice will do the same thing come winter.

I save/saved this type of shredded stuff from fruit baskets etc. & use it as basket filler.
I just used this color to put underneath my new acorns in a basket. Fills the bottom & this color blends with the basket & acorns.
I have other colors for different baskets/seasons.
This works for lighter items, the towels are a great idea for heavier items.

Temps finally down beginning here today. Highs in the low to mid 70's for the next several days and sunshine! God's most perfect weather!
We had way too much rain up through the first of August, and now we are getting a break, for when it rains, most goes around us or we get just rain, not flooding for the last couple of weeks.
Feels like September today, and I'm taking advantage working outside in spurts!

I have even seen the baskets laying on their side with the pumpkins and gourds spilling out, looks nice.

@ChiliPepper, @lucymo, lol true. If I am curious about something, I will come here to see if anyone is discussing it, most times before I look elsewhere.
