the color of the carnations on Mother's Day?

When I was growing up our church gave a red one to ladies whose mothers were alive and a white one to ones whose mothers were dead.

It was always pink carnations if mothers were living and white if they were deceased.  I never saw red carnations be given away.

Carnations were my moms favorite flower, I usually place pink or yellow carnations at her gravesite when I visit.  Happy Mothers Day, Mom!

My mother stopped going to church on mother's day when she was "recognized" (called out to her!) as being the oldest mother!  Woman LOL
