Re: Christmas Theme Decorating

When I was younger, had more energy and children at home I would switch things up each year. Now I have simplified and only have one tree and slightly change up some of the decor each year which is partly because I get bored or simply forget what I did the year before, lol.

@rockygems123 - What a beautiful tree!

My theme is eclectic! I use ornaments that mean something to us as a family, including ones from places we have lived and visited. We have two real trees. One is more beach themed.

In the house I also use sentimental decorations, but I do like Valerie's pieces too!  Smiley Wink

Re: Christmas Theme Decorating

At this point I'm set in my ways.  ICICLES, with white and Silver decorations.

If I want a change, I have the colourful bulbs from childhood up through the years before the frosty tree took hold.

But I LOVE seeing everybody elses trees!

Re: Christmas Theme Decorating

I don't have a theme but I do enjoy doing something different with our trees each year...different decorations and different locations.

How wonderful having the sentimental pieces out for display!  That was my normal go-to also but when we had the hardwoods installed it was fun to try new things.

Everything that is on that tree is in one large rectangular box and it's one and done lol.

Re: Christmas Theme Decorating

I have the same theme every year...Christmas in Wisconsin. I grew up in Northern WI and had a great childhood. I add a few pieces every year but in any of my seasonal decor I don't do the same thing twice. I move stuff around and make different looks.

Re: Christmas Theme Decorating

I made the mistake of trying to change things up a few years ago; moved the tree to another corner, changed the mantle decor, etc. My kids and my grandkids had a fit! As soon as they walked inside they started moaning and groaning that things weren't right and it didn't seem like our house anymore. I decided I was taking memories away from them and have gone back to my original Christmas decor with just "gentle"changes. For me,  it is all about the tree. We have a 12 ft tree and it is covered with every ornament of every color that I have collected over the years; some from my mother and grandmother, friends, and some handmade ones from my students, kids, and grandkids.

Re: Christmas Theme Decorating

Years ago I had a next door neighbor who put a ratty,old wreath on her front door.  Then she would say,"okay, now it is Christmas."   Always thought of her as Mrs. Scrooge.
