Candles in the Window

[ Edited ]

Ok, random question time!

For those of you who display candles in your windows during the holidays, do you raise your blinds/shades up to the height of the candle? We have those white wooden blinds that you can pull up and down (not plantation shutters). I just bought the Bethlehem Lights battery operated window candles. Would it look odd in the evenings to have our blinds behind them? I’m not concerned about the daytime, I just worry that it’s a little unsafe leaving blinds lifted up, even partially, at night.

Pull your blinds down if you're worried about safety. However, if you pull the blinds down,  the candles will look fine. Try it and go outside and check to see if you like it that way.

My suggestion would be to raise all blinds to the same level in every room, first of all. I choose half way up the window, even with the bar where the lock is. I think a house with various levels of blinds looks bad from the outside.

Then, if you are only going to use the candles on a 6 hour timer, set it so that it goes off early enough that you can pull the blinds for bedtime, showers etc. that you don't want people seeing going on inside the house.

I sometimes have to pull the blinds down over my candles, and it really isn't the best look from outside, but you will have to do what you need to for proper privacy in certain rooms.

Then in the daylight again, raise all blinds to the same levels.

Just put your candles in the windows, close all blinds at dusk.  Candles are not for daytime use anyway.

I have used the Bethlehem lights (bronze) plug in for years and always keep the blinds down and they look pretty from the outside during the day and at night when lit. Last year I upgraded and purchased the battery operated and also display with the blinds down.

I use the Luminara ones that Costco sells, 2 to a package (at least they used to). Love them. I have the blinds closed as the time is set from 6-11pm and we want to sleep, lol. They are also in the bathrooms so privacy is an issue. The look beautiful  with the blinds down.

Here in Pennsylvania, people use candles in their windows all year long.

The candles are placed on the sill between the window and the blinds.

I keep the blinds closed with the candles.  It isn't a problem because the sill is wide enough.

I keep my window candles in year round. I have blinds in the lower level and I keep them down. On the upper level  I have drapery and sheers in the bedrooms. The candles are exposed in the living room/dining room/kitchen and in front of the sheers in all the others. We are surrounded by woods so I really did want some privacy in the bedrooms. My wndows are large so there is quite a bit of glass.
