@Marsha2003 wrote:@Oznell What a charming piece and how fortunate you were to receive a lid that works with it for free!
I have a few pressed glass and cut glass pieces to use for serving certain things. They coordinate with many different china patterns.
I recently obtained this pressed glass tray and bowl. I think the flower pattern is perfect for spring and summer snacks.
@Marsha2003 Those pieces are Anchor Hocking, the Savannah pattern.

I have 2 cut glass candy dishes with lids from my great great aunt
they were originally my moms , she gave them to me they just weren't her taste.
@Oznell your compote Daisy & button is lovely, what a nice find and free lid thrown in as well ! I've only seen pics of that pattern.

@Oznell Are you familiar with glass frogs? They are used for flower arranging and don't look anything like a frog lol. For some reason they would always take my eye when I was antiquing, among so many other things. I have green, clear, pink, black, and amber colored ones.
I use them for my make up brushes and also for pens.

Am a huge fan of old glass and have a few pieces. One ia a cut glass water goblet on a stem, from the civil war days from my MIL's grandmother---no one in the family wanted it so I took it. Is a lovely piece. I have a lot depression/pressed glass, some old carnival glass and one piece of Lodz --a vase --that I think is worth a few thousand $$. saw the exact one on Antiques roadshow a few years ago!! How about that!! Also have a beautiful divided platter of Fostoria glass too--was my moms from her wedding I think. And a few teacup/saucer sets that are as thin as eggshells, from ,my FIL dad. ---I have no place to display any of it yet so they are in storage--makes me sad!!

Really enjoying all your comments and stories of glass, thanks posters.
@lynnie61 , so sorry about your oil dispenser. Yes, you must go on the hunt for something similar.
@DSD2 , you'd probably like the substitute lid better. I wish I knew the pattern-- it's graceful, not as bulky and "airier" looking than the actual Daisy and Button lid. I prefer it, but for some reason, I'm taken with that quirky cross-bar finial on the D and B lid. Agree that the dish can totally stand on its own.
@tends2dogs , I like vintage glass flower frogs too! They are so handy, esp. for helping flowers to "stand up" in a shallow bowl or vase. I have only one. I love your alternate uses of them, versatile.

I have a couple of these...one that I use as a lipstick holder...

@50Mickey Thank you for taking the time to post the identity of my floral bowl and platter. I love knowing pattern names and manufacturers.

@Desertdi and @tends2dogs You're so clever to think of alternate uses for glass flower frogs. I might have to steal one of those.

@Oznell Your Button & Daisy compote is beautiful, so Victorian. It was so nice to get a compatable lid incuded.
I think that it is perfect without a lid.
I also have one of those clear glass flower frogs. Even though the compote is not flat inside, I wonder if your frog could be set into it to make a floral arrangement.
On another topic, not glass, we talked about our affinity for owls in a previous post. I had mentioned my collection and how years ago, I wanted to get the Belleek owl vase.
Well, I looked at it online and now, I don't think that the face is so cute. But, on Etsy, I found a Beswick Barn Owl and got it from a lady in London. It is so cute sitting on my mantel along with a Whyte & Mackey Snowy Owl and two Italian alabaster owls.
@tends2dogs Your inherited Candlewick is a treasure to cherish. It is lovely that you have holiday memories attached to the pieces.
Back in the 80's my grandmother gave me a large
Candlewick centerpiece bowl and two matching candleholders.
I have used the set on my dining room table.

@Enufstuff , yes, I think the frog would work in there. They are so handy to have.
I looked up your Beswick Barn Owl, and he is so CUTE! The Beswick animal figurines are darling-- I can imagine how great your owl looks with your other items. You and I both have a pair of Italian alabaster owls. Mine are small, but so solid and rather heavy, that I sometimes use them as bookends.
Lucky you and @tends2dogs have lovely Candlewick. I'm always drawn to the elegant simplicity of it, with those clear beads....
