Re: My heavy leather purse phase is over

I had ro give up those heavy, leather, Dooneys in the mid- to late-teens when my hips and knees gave out.  I was still working and they were just too heavy.  I tried traditional backpacks for a while, but my shoulders are giving out too and they are too hard to get on and off.

I now stick to nylon or some canvas bags and I try not to pack 'em full (not always  successful). I'm retired so I can usually get a way with it and i'm carrying a large tote for winter for my gym shoes, etc.  In a few weeks, when I won't have to deal with snow anymore, I'll ditch it for something smaller.  If I had a car, it wouldn't be so big a deal, and I have new hips and knees now, but I live in Manhattan and take the bus almost everywhere.  I may try a backpack again (I can use the string ones, but not the "regular" ones) when I get new shoulders but this is in the future.

I like some of the new leather (and non-leather) purse vendors QVC has now, but I won't be buying any more leather purses.

I've downsized so much that I don't even carry a crossbody bag. I have many of these MZ Wallace pouches that I've switched to. The freedom is liberating. This one is actually a cosmetic bag but it holds everything I need for the day.

@fairydogmother , didn't you just order the Sprinkler from QVC? I think the price has been reduced. If you paid more you can call, and get a price adjustment within 30 days of your order.

Re: My heavy leather purse phase is over

I'm still using my leather handbags -- not as often as I once did since I usually use a crossbody bag for convenience. I often stick them inside a larger tote so that I can grab the crossbody to go into the store but have the convenience of the tote.

If I'm going somewhere (lunch, etc.) I'll change all of my stuff into one of my leather bags.

I was thinking that I have a lavendar leather bag that I plan to use for Easter Sunday (unless it rains or snows which it could certainly do on March 31).

I love my Dooneys, though - especially my little Micro Florentine satchel in the color Elephant. So cute!

Re: My heavy leather purse phase is over

Since the pandemic started in 2020, I stopped carrying my leather handbags since I did a lot of walking outside. Also recurrent neck and shoulder pain means I no longer want to carry a big handbag.

Imam planning to go through my medium and large leather handbags and donate some to Dress for Success this year.

Re: My heavy leather purse phase is over

I thought of this thread today. I lost sleep last night trying to decide whether or not to keep the almost 2 lb. pebble grain Dooney satchel I just bought myself for my 70th birthday. It's gorgeous, but am I ever going to use it?  It's too expensive to just pull out and look at every once in a while. Back it goes, methinks.

I'm sure it's beautiful but...2 lbs empty would be a dealbreaker for me. Return it and get something beautiful and lighter weight that you'll actually want to carry. 🥰

Re: My heavy leather purse phase is over

I only carry leather bags and don't even own a Lug or other bag that is made from poly ( plastic).  I do have a few cotton market tote bags.

I have been carrying a leather bag since I was in third grade and don't intend to stop.  I have all sizes and not all of them are heavy.

I have always felt that leather bags and shoes were the best for me.
