Probably "copies", forgeries, imitations, etc.    You can tell by looking at the rest of what the person is wearing.....    If the total "look" doesn't add up to wealth, then it's a fake.

Sorry, but that's totally untrue.  I used to have several authentic designer bags, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Gucci etc...still have a few.  I am a plain dresser...never spend a lot on clothes but I like nice accessories.  I have a girlfriend that dresses quite nice but never purchases authentic handbags, always knock offs.

LV signature print bags aren't as expensive as you seem to think.  The Neverfull is in the $2000.  Some of the newer cross bodies are around $1600.     People buy from sites that sell pre-owned luxury bags.  There are credit cards and Klarna that offers a stretch pay option.  And, of course, you have no way of knowing if the bags you see are genuine. There are online stores that sell luxury bags replicas that are beautifully made and indistinguishable from the real thing.  They offer replicas for a few hundred dollars ad opposed to a few thousand for the real thing.  I needed a cross body strap for my Neverfull.  LV charges about $400 for one.  I bought a replica for $50.  Genuine leather, looks exactly like the real deal. I was impressed by the hardware.  My bff who I'll call "my friend with money" gave me her collection of signature LV.  She's 79, retired hadn't used those bags and accessories in many years.  She gifted my girls and other friends Gucci and Chanel.    I sometimes get stares from people when I pull my LV wallet out my LV handbag.  I know they are wondering "real or not real".  It makes me laugh.  Coach is not luxury so you can't compare that situation with luxury bags.  Women carry the bags, genuine or not, that they choose to carry and they don't care about tarnishing the brand.  Luxury brands can take care of themselves.

Agree.  You can't look at a person and automatically know what their financial situation is.

@Allthingsgirly67 I agree that once they were considered exclusive and very high end, but now they are much more common and carried by many people.  They do have plain bags, like plain black, but most people seem to prefer the patterns that are most associated with the brand.   People apparently love the look, and for a time and maybe for some people still it was for status reasons.  I've heard the quality is very good although since they expanded their commercial store presence and had to increase production, maybe there have been changes to that?  I heard that they had some china manufacturing more recently.  And also a good point that was made is that there are many. Knock offs now too.

They are still high end, and very expensive.

I've never understood the appeal; a bulky, ugly dark brown canvas bag with no organization or style, just a barrell.  I wouldn't have one if it was given to me.

@Desertdi Not true, for example, take a look at Kristina Braly on Youtube.  She looks and dresses like a bridge troll but has a million dollars worth of Hermes bags and designer jewelry.

You are correct....I see lots of LVs in many venues.  I don't know the demographics of the owner nor do I know if the bag is an original as there are amazing and numerous replicas.  Neverfull's and speedy's especially are fairly common.  Having a LV does not have the "status" code that it did.  Doesn't matter to me...just observations.

I wear what I like and could care less about the perception of a brand.

@DRUMPF     People with "new" money don't count in my book.    I don't watch "influencers".....but thank you, anyway!    di

People like what they like. I've never cared for LV, but I love Gucci and that's all I carry these days. Our budget allows for one or two a year and I think that's very reasonable. The quality is impeccable, and I'll pass them along to one of my girls like I did with the ones I had before starting a family.

Maybe I'm missing something with this post but what does it matter what a person's wealth is depending on the handbag they are carrying?  Who's business is it? I don't have time to focus on someones handbag when I'm out, I'm busy doing what I need to do and get safely back home !  JMO
