I thought I was carrying essentials I would need for all situations but when I really got down to it I was carrying many items I never used. I went through my purse with a heavy hand and really cleaned it out. For instance , I go everywhere in the car so it is always with me or nearby. I took my umbrella out , my halo charger - they are very heavy - and some other items & now I leave them in the car. I got rid of all keys except the car key and the house key. All the rest of my keys are on a keychain in the car. My gym pass and my golf cart key and locker lock & key are now on a peg in the garage that I grab when I'm going to the gym instead of carrying them around with me everywhere. Sunglasses are in the car.
While it may seem that individual items aren't very heavy they add up. Just go through & figure out what you NEED to have with you at all times and what you can leave at home or in the car. My purse right now has my wallet, my comb, a pen & small tablet ( I write a lot of stuff down)my phone, kleenex purse pack, my inhaler, keys to car & house only, lip gloss.

one thing you can do that I did for the family is this, if you have a smartphone is to use the keyring app.
You can add all of the loyalty cards to it and leave them at home and most of them that we have use our home phone as a user identifier
we all use the same app and login on the phone
I only use one credit card, and keep that in a separate zip wallet

exactly I keep the phone charger in my car where i can charge it and only take it when I think I might need it.
As i am able to think ahead I charge my phone before I leave the house.

When I commuted into the city to work I needed to carry a lot because I was away for as much as 12 hours. But since retirement I need just the essentials which are keys, small credit card wallet, lipstick, small zip with floss, a couple of Tylenol, Aleve and pepto tablets. Sunglasses.. and phone. I do not carry a bag that weighs more than 1.5 lbs.

For some reason this thread reminds me of Kramer taking notes on how to shower faster...

I agree - when I was working I needed a lot more stuff. Keys for areas at work, swipe in & out cards , nametag and tools I carried in my pockets all day, then threw into my purse after work. Now , retired, I do not NEED to carry much at all.
