Petunias (to my knowledge) are annuals. Occasionally I've had a stray pop up.

I don't think any petunias come back - they have to be replaced yearly. They are one of my favorite flowers. I like to plant a pot with red geraniums , which grow upwards and white petunias and variegated ivy which grow down.
