My dh and I were at Lowes this morning and while waiting for him, I was lurking around in the garden section. I bought a plant that captured my heart and would love to grow it as a houseplant. It's a succulent called Rock Purslane (Calandrinia Spectabilis). I put it on my large window seat in the bay window. I checked the internet but didn't find anything that hinted at it being used as a houseplant. Any ideas?

Re: Question for Garden Experts

I have several of these in my landscaping. I'm not sure if it would survive indoors.

@twopeas  I'd try it indoors for sure.  I like it.  I'm assuming your placement will be a sunny spot.

Don't know how many pots of this you bought or if it was a 4" or what.  I'd try some outside and then bring it in if you're in a climate that has cold weather.  See how that works.

Re: Question for Garden Experts

These are closely related to rose moss, if not a variation..  Its an annual, though it might reseed in ideal conditions.  Low water.  They are beautiful, I've had one myself for a hanging basket in the summer.  Need a lot of sunlight.  You can try over-wintering it, but I do believe it needs to be outside for the summer.

Re: Question for Garden Experts

I've had hanging baskets of moss rose (Portulaca) that withered away at the end of summer but when I watered the scraggly mess the nest spring, the seeds it had dropped came alive and I had a whole new plant.
