Re: Question about growing vegetables

Thanks for the reply ~ What a beautiful pic of the hummingbird and i love how your garden is a place for them to feed and shelter! When i lived in western PA, i always had so many who visited my petunias on the front porch railings. It was so pretty and so zen! Have a wonderful growing season when it gets here for you Smiley Happy

Re: Question about growing vegetables

I'm too chicken to name the town i'm in! I've only been in CT for about 15 yrs; I think it is a beautiful state and i love going out on the sound around Leetes Island in the summertime. We also used to make Jimmy's in W.Haven a regular stop for a lobster roll and Bloody Mary on Sunday afternoons Smiley Happy

And I moved to NE 15 yrs ago when I got married!!!

Ah, boy, that brings back memories...love the lobster rolls, fried clams (with the bellies) and their fries too...and those foot long hotdogs!

Ok...now I'm hungry! And memories of good times...I loved taking the drive along the shoreline (I'd either go east to Essex/Old Saybrook or head west through to Milford) in the summertime...my sunroof up, music of the 80's/90's blaring from the radio and the wind in my hair {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Since we have always planted our beans in the garden location where they get the most sun, I vote for afternoon light.

I do, too, because beans is a warm weather crop, and the afternoon sun would naturally be warmer.

Having your soil warm will also guarantee good seed germination. A day before planting, you may want to put black plastic on the soil for heating.

I love vertical gardening!

Re: Question about growing vegetables

Stella Dallas, you might want to look up gardening info from your state ag extension; I have a friend who lives in Texas, and she needs state-and-region-specific info because it gets so hot there. She can't even go by the advice on all of the gardening shows she likes to watch because she says by the time they plant, she has to be harvesting before the heat sets in!

Wow! That's amazing.

Thank you all for your good advice. I've done some monitoring of my yard for what kind of light goes where, and I found a patch that gets morning sun, is in the shade for less than an hour, and gets afternoon sun the rest of the day, and that's where my beans will go.
