One of the joys of living in Southern California is the abundance of these beautiful red poinsettias plants. They flower in the ground for many months, all through the winters and then some.
One year I pruned them back since I had them in my yard. Then I used the cut off stems as sticks to hold up other plants. Well in a few months, all the stems being used as sticks to support other plants developed roots! No special care at all. I was amazed. So simple to grow here.
Are other posters in different parts of the country able to grow them too?

I live in south Florida; summer all year round. I took my poinsettia from last Christmas and put it out on my balcony after the Holidays. I am on the 3rd floor so have no ground to plant anything. I have a few tropical plants there out there as well. To my dismay, the plant was totally destroyed by small white flies. I tried to save it to no avail. The flies only attacked the poinsettia plant. I have a new one this year, but will keep it inside.

Please post a pic; I'd love to see them.

I'd LOVE to see those in CA. In south TX, we do get occasional freezes, so Poinsettias aren't safe in the ground. But, I think people give up on them too soon after the holiday season. When they start looking poor, most consider them just decorative, disposable plants.
However, given a little love, they can last for years in a pot. I had one for five years that put on bracts every season. I sadly lost it this summer.
I now have a plant from holiday 2019 that I re-potted during the summer. It's thrived and is now really big and bushy. It started putting on bracts just recently.
Of course, in this climate, they have to be toted about and brought in during certain weather conditions, which some don't want to mess with. But, it's worth it to see them carry on.
