I've noticed as of late that the legions of birds that nest in a huge tree nearby are not chirping in the morning and perching on my patio rails. Why is this?

Probably because breeding season is over and the birds are no longer singing to show which territory is theirs. They are starting to go into cooler weather mode of locating possible Winter food areas.

I've noticed this too.

Many times during the spring and summer, I set up a recorder overnight in a tree in the woods so I could record the dawn chorus. I plan to edit my recordings them to make one long relaxing background track.

The last two times, this month, I got almost nothing. I think it's all over.

Some say it is due to the electromagnetic changes due to magnetic pole shifting or due to the CME events (coronal mass ejections) from the sun*.

The mystery of birds and how they navigate seems to lean toward some reliance upon magnetic field lines. If the lines change or warp or are interfered with, this may, and probably does affect all creatures, birds and, although not mentioned in "typical" publications, humans.

Thousands of birds have fallen from the sky, maimed, dying, globally. A mystery on the most part.

*Which is happening right now, if you read the news.

We've had unusually hot weather this year. About the only reason I'm NOT glad it's over is that I miss the sound of singing birds in the spring and summer dawns. Already we've had a few flocks of geese flying south.
