Hello-

I have roses from Cottage Farms and I have little green bugs crawling on one of the plants on the leaves.  They are eating them.  What would work to put on them to stop this problem?

Thanks for any help I may get.

They're probably aphids.  You can spray them off with strong stream of water - be careful not to damage the roses.  Keep at it for several days, or as long as it takes.  Once off the plant, beneficial insects, like ladybugs, will find them tasty.  OR you can use an insecticide that's rated for aphids. But try the other way first please.

That's why I finally gave up on roses.  Just as you see buds ready to bloom - the bugs show up and eat the underside of the leaves and petals of the blooms.  Besides the water you can buy a spray at the garden center that kills all kinds of buys.  That will kill them whereas water just knocks them off.  (to come back another day)

I seem to remember a few drops of dishwashing liquid (and you can use Seventh Generation if you like) in the water and washing off the leaves and buds helps with aphids.

I used an Organic Bug spray for plants that I got at Walmart. It did the job the first treatment.

@Bexter37

It could be aphids (I use ladybugs to eat them) or it could be rose slugs (that is the name of some larva of a saw fly).

Here is a great website with excellent photos of insect or disease problems on roses. http://www.sactorose.org/rosebug/irosepests.htm
