My long-time, incorrigible squirrel, Mustache, taught this other little squirrel how to outwit the squirrel-proof bird feeder! (Don't have a name for him yet....I'm looking for some markings...) I guess it'll have to be Little Shaver.

Anyway, Mustache was here earlier this a.m., and now Little Shaver, besides a host of regulars taking turns at the PB sammys, and if they ever get a seed in edgeways at the feeder!

The feeder is already set to the lightest weight. But Little Shaver is finding a way to take hold of the top part that doesn't make the door close.

I should start a TV reality show, "Are You Smarter Than a Squirrel?"

Anybody here smarter than a squirrel?

Re: Mustache's Bad Influence

We have 6 squirrels we feed in the winter...one of them is black. They start to come around about late September...usually to bury their black walnuts (findings from our neighbor's yard across the street) into our gardens...and checking to see when/if the nut and seed feeders are out yet...which I put out about the 3rd week of October after the Hummingbird migration season is over.

Anyway, I have taken a zillion pics of our furry family...doing all sorts of antics to get the nuts and seeds...even when they don't have to since I put plenty on the ground for them. I think it's just ingrained in their DNA to investigate.

Here's an example of one of them doing a little investigating with one of our Hummingbird feeders...the lil' stinker {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Re: Mustache's Bad Influence

Oh my, Susan Louise! What a pose!!!! Thank you for sharing your picture!

My hum feeder is hung above the "squirrel proof." Last year Mustache kept climbing on top of that one to get the nectar out of the hum feeder! He would tilt it and sip it all out! He wasn't very endearing to me at the time. But he did jump down as soon as I yelled "No!" to him! He also chewed it to bits, so I'll have to get a new hum feeder come April!

Yep, I think your squirrel knows his rightful place, you being the caretaker and all! Smiley Happy
