Red mums are also durable to weather and return year after year.

I could not agree more.  This year I went with tri-color mums for our porch.  They are now in full bloom.  It's been unseasonably warm so will have to replace them before too long.

We have mums that were planted 20 years ago and come back stronger every year.  The newer ones seldom make it.  I was told at the nursery, mums simply are not as hardy as they once were.

@BunSnoop  Yes, the yellow ones seem to last longer for us.

I usually have a lot of them planted in the ground but we had a little thing called Hurricane Irma that came through here a few weeks ago and destroyed them. Smiley Sad
