I posted awhile back about moss in a lawn.  Wanted to update this.  We get a lot of rain and the lawn wasn't cut just before the fall and with all the rain I feel this caused a lot of the moss problem.  I put moss control on the lawn and it did only kill the moss.  I waited several weeks and did rake out the moss which weighed next to nothing.  It didn't look as bad I thought it would and now it's looking good.  May take some time to regrow in areas but from what I see now I'm not worried.  There is a combination lawn fertilizer with moss control so may use that for a short time.  So happy I did it myself.  I did plant this lawn many years ago and it was time consuming but now I wouldn't even try to redo it myself.  Just don't have the strength anymore.

@kismet

  I'm a member of that club too !  Years ago DH and I painted the stucco of our rancher at least three times over 52 years, we planted and transplanted so many trees and large shrubs, and I painted all 20+ sets of tall shutters.

I did a lot of the low plantings in the landscaping and divided all kinds of flowers and shrubs to give away.  I finally have away most of the stuff that required hands on work.  90% of my yard plantings take care of themselves from appearing in the spring, flowering, maintaining themselves through the summer and dying off after the first frost.

Years ago we bought our new home and there was no grass just dirt.  We hired a landscaper to do the yard.  We were very happy with it but then over the years it was too much too close so I moved a lot of things.  Now I see it's too close again and plan to hire someone to take down some small trees and bushes.  I wanted to have it done years ago but my husband wouldn't do it.  Now I'm here alone and plan on making it all easier to take care of.  When we bought our first house I never took care of plants or lawns.  Learned through books and trial and error.  Having computers back then would have been nice.  I always feel better after spending time outside.  I sprayed weeds in the back yard yesterday with vinegar since the dog is there.  Tomorrow I spray weeds in the front with weed killer that I won't use where the dog plays.  There's always something to do.

I used to do the entire front bed mulching but it is a very big job and I can no longer do it.  I'm going to spray the weeds this week and hope they die, then rake the beds.  I'll get a price on having mulch put down from my lawn service.  I have poison ivy I want them to remove from an evergreen tree first.  I hope they will do it but perhaps not.  I did spray with poison ivy killer the other day and I will check to see if anything is dead yet.

If you have a small amount of moss growing on bricks or stone pavers (or a lawn patch), you can sprinkle some Baking Soda on it and that will kill the moss within a couple of days. I tried it on my brick patio and it worked like a charm - pretty easy and cheap too!

I had a house on 2 1/2 acres-- most of which  was like a forrest--big trees, blackberries, ferns, salal  and such--- and as hard as my now, stupid ex, would try to remedy that,  the lawn was always mostly moss. Which made it look really lush and green in the summer time, other lawns were browned up. I don't really care about lawns--think watering to keep it green is----a huge waste---also a salmon spawning creek ran right thru the property, so we didn't put anything on it for fear of poisoning the creek.

wagirl,  your 2 1/2 acres sounds like my yard and I live in WA also.  With all the rain seems like moss is everywhere plus the mess from the trees.  I just wanted to see if I could take care of the moss since I never had to deal with it before.  I get morning sun on the lawn and none later on.  Moss is on driveways, yards, even the roof.  I had my roof cleaned because of moss and my neighbor is having hers done this week.  Have to pressure wash my driveway.  I have lived in this house over 40 years and never saw it as bad as it is now.  As it is I always have to have my roof cleaned twice a year from the trees.  One good wind storm and it's a mess but I do love the trees.   My lawn is never brown because of little sun.
