There is a lot of moss in my lawn.  I did get some moss killer and just tried a little on the moss.  It turned it black pretty fast.  Does anyone have any experience with moss?  I'm thinking I should just remove the moss and then reseed but not sure that's the best choice.  The moss wasn't bad last year but with all the rain we've gotten now it's a big problem.  I really don't want to have to redo the whole lawn.  I planted it years ago and it was beautiful for years.  I'd like to take care of it myself but may have to hire someone.  Any suggestions.

If you google it it says to apply a moss killer and remove it once dead.  Probably would be helpful to get advice of a lawn care company.

I'm noticing a lot of moss in the my yard as well, but I haven't tried a moss killer or any of the homemade remedies I've seen online.  We had a lawncare service put down sod about 5 years ago, but in places it's like the moss has taken over.  Part of me feels like I should just embrace the moss but another wants to get rid of it.  I'm not sure that grass is going to grow if I do eliminate it.  I look forward to reading responses, and I hope you're able to find a low-cost solution.

I live in Southern California where it's encouraged to switch lawns to other, less water thirsty options.  I've managed to maintain a semblance of my backyard lawn which now has some moss, some grass, and a mixture of green weeds.  For me, I'm extremely happy to look out and see green.  It doesn't matter what mixture of nature makes the color.  I keep it all mowed, so it looks good and the birds continue to visit to hunt for their worms.

i will never put in an artificial lawn because I've never seen any wildlife thriving on plastic grass.  But I may transition to native plantings if the "lawn" dies out.

Could the soil need aerating?  Some soils and climates need it every year.

I did check on Google and it says to remove the dead moss and check the soil and then reseed but wondering if anyone had any suggestions.  Years ago I saw a front yard that had a lot of shade with moss growing and I thought it was pretty.  I planted my lawn in the late 70s and all these years it's been fine.  My husband usually took care of the lawn but he was ill and neglected it.  Then he passed but very little moss last year in the lawn.  We have moss on roofs and driveways here with all the rain we've had.  Pressure washed my driveway last summer and needs it again plus my patio.  Have a lot of evergreen trees in this area which doesn't help.  My neighbor has moss growing on her roof and never saw that before.  Mine was cleaned 2 years ago and needs to be cleaned again after a few wind storms.  Will call someone to clean off the roof.
