Went for a walk today around the tract block. I noticed the different types of landscape rocks and redwood chips/bark.
Do you have any experiencw tith these items? I want to add some interest to my landscape.

@Puzzle Piece We have a lot of river rock and I really like the look. We don't like bark because over time it turns a weathered gray color and the sun can bleach them out so after a period of time I think it actually looks bad.

I have all rocks. Went out on the desert myself, and hand-picked them. (I was 30 years younger...and had an old car with a BIG trunk.)
I still don't know how I did it...but it was FREE landscaping (!!)

I love the color of the river rocks, they never fade or look dirty. I put them in my atrium with plants and boxwoods. I like the bark nuggets in some areas that aren't exposed to a lot of sun.

@Puzzle Piece We have then around the building I live in. Some of the tenants even painted & decorated a few in beautiful bright colors. Some have a saying or a message. Some have tenanta's names who have died.
Visitors always comment about the colorful stones.
Amazing the colors are still vibrant after over a decade.
In th back we have rocks surrounding the garden. None of them are decorated.

Another vote for river rocks. They are my fav for landscaping. Not really pricey either.

Our back and front yard is totally rock. Most houses in Arizona landscape in rocks because of water shortages and to be honest who wants to do yard work when it's 110 degrees outside? Wouldn't have it any other way. No maintenance.

My entire yard, front and back, as well as those of my neighbors is rock. Water is too expensive here to waste on lawn watering so just about everyone has rock or artificial turf. What do you want to know?

Most yards in AZ, including mine, are comprised of rock. Many HOAs don't allow real grass due to being in the desert & needing to maintain water conservation.
The rocks last & wear just fine. You do have to add more over time as they roll away in wind, storms, etc. .

At our house, we have a combination of mulch bark and various types of rocks. Keeping up with mowing grass on uneven front yard and slope/hillside on the sides and back was out of the question from the git-go. Fortunately, ferns grow like crazy here.
We refresh the mulch bark every other year up to 2-3 inches. And, at the street front we a variety of 1-man and 2-man rocks arranged in a particular color and various shapes. The others are smaller rocks that I can lift, and were hand picked and grouped by type and color. It was a great project that we took our time to arrange and add to if we see something of interest.
No maintenance with the rocks, lots of visual interest and they make the yard unique. Have fun and enjoy the journey!
