@Mom2Dogswrote:

@Lilysmom, holy smokes that is beautiful!!!

Do you ever trim your plants?

@Mom2Dogs  If you are talking about hydrangeas, I remove spent blooms, and only prune to shape, if necessary.  There are two types, so one has to know what type they have in order to know whether/how to prune.

@Mom2Dogs  You can prune, but it has to be done before new buds set or there won't be blooms the following year.  Prune immediately after blooms are spent before new buds form.

@mousiegirl...I made a note on my calendar when to prune....this was the first year for the calendar notes and asked again to make sure I was right about the timing...love these boards, everyone is usually very helpful...thanks!

@Mom2Dogs, I have never trimmed the vanilla strawberry.  There is room for them to grow.  I usually only trim winter damage...broken branches.  With some, usually of the Endless Summer variety, I wait until everything is green out and remove the dead canes.  Give them room to grow when you plant them and trimming is less of an issue.

I hope you love your vanilla strawberry.  It is a beautiful shrub.  LM

you don't trim them back! you will get new growth and blooms off the old woody parts
