In my SE PA yard, the hummers seem to be carb-loading. They spend more time at the feeder and visit more often. I think they are getting ready to migrate. We are lucky to get any hummers, because we have several feral cats nearby and a very active bird feeder congregation. Love hearing about all the hummers in various parts of our continent!

@PA Mom-mom   Now that you mentioned about the carb-loading that what our birds here were doing!   And after heavy rain they all but vanised. I was putting out fresh nectar every night and they emptied it.

wondering about bats. we get bats at dusk now, they chip chip in the yard so I stay indoors.  Wonder if bats are chasing hummingbirds away. they probably don't drink from feeders. they aren't fruitbats.

I'm in a no-snow zone in AZ. We have noticed increased activity at the feeders in the last 2 weeks. Our feeders are up year-round but, in the fall and spring, we do see some passers-by on their way to Mexico and South America. It's is always fun to see the new species here, for even a few days, before they move on!
