How To Get Rid Of Mint?

I planted mint in my flower bed several years ago, against my better judgement. Every year, it comes back with gusto. I want to get rid of it, but without chemicals. I've tried digging and pulling, but there are always underground shoots that spring up. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
