I live in Cleveland, Ohio. I put my hibiscus the twisted branch one, that I purchased last year in my unheated garage. for the winter. The leaves on still on it but dried out. My son put it out this weekend on a partially covered patio. Do I trim the branches and knock the leaves down? Isi It to soon to put it out? Not sure what my next step is? Please advise as soon as possible? Had over 150 blooms last year in colors or yellow, pink and red-ish pink color. Was just beautiful!!!

Thank you,

Joan

I have Japanese maples and white pin oaks that hold onto their brown, yucky leaves until the new ones sprout. You don't have to do anything to the dead leaves - they will fall off naturally when the time is right.

No need to worry yet...it's been a long cold winter.

Hardy hibiscus can be trimmed before it starts to leaf out...I'm not sure about the one you have - is it hardy or tropical?

Try calling a local garden center for some advice. This is still slow season for them and they should have the time to help you.

Good luck!

Yes, this is true, and you do not have to worry about pruning off any buds for the upcoming season. The Rose of Sharon hibiscus blooms on the current season's wood.

Tropical hibiscus needs to be indoors during a winter like a sunroom or inside a house as they are not hardy.
