@JoBee, the information about the oak tree is interesting.  The hydrangea is in a different light now.  If you don't like the way it behaves, move it to a similar location with light like the oak tree situation.  I find it best to move shrubs and trees in the spring before they leaf out.  That way, they have lots of time to establish a good root system before the winter sets in if you have a winter.  LM

It also could be a hydrangea that prefers more sunlight and that is why it is doing better.
