Help with Dahlias

I need some advise. I planted several dahlia bulbs in large flower pots. The plant has grown really nice.....however I have a ton of buds that look like they are about to open, but they dont. The buds end up dying before they even open. I was so happy to see all the buds and I was anticipating having beautiful flowers...but nothing Smiley Sad. Am I doing something wrong or is anyone else having the same issue? It is such a let down to see all the buds and then nothing.
