I am so sorry I did not take a picture.

 

The other day when out I noticed what I thought was a hosta variety.

 

It looks like a spider plant, narrow white and green variegated leaves.  Grows low like a hosta.  This time of year they have a spike of deep purple flowers that remind me of lavender.

Every one I saw was small and compact.  

They were planted in a common space in a development used as a border near a sidewalk. 

 

Any guesses?

My guess would be liriope.
