I used to have a larger yard and a compost bin.  Now, my yard is tiny so I no longer have space for one.

I'm reminded of composting because a friend recently mentioned she was starting to and had learned that even Q-tips could be added (not the ones with the plastic stems, of course, just the wood or paper stemmed ones).  

Do any of you compost?

We compost.    If you have a really small area, look up composting DIY ideas for small areas.  U will find a way to continue to compost I can assure you.

Yes, we have two compost heaps.  We just throw yard waste in there, and let the leaves fall, and turn them periodically.  I'll dispose of old cut flowers in there, or seasonal plants that have seen their day.  Old lettuce, that kind of thing.  Even juniper clippings get chewed up pretty fast.

DH put some plastic sheeting underneath - other than that, they're open to the elements, but the land slopes downward and they dry out pretty quickly.  Plus, they're under a high tree canopy

Excellent stuff.  I plant all things in the garden with it, topdress beds, and plant outdoor containers and houseplants in it.  I never buy soil amendments or potting soil.

I wish I had the space on my property. I do buy composed manure for my veggie garden to give it a good start every year.

I took a master gardener class one time about composting and was surprised that you need very little space to compost. The trick to it is to chop everything up really small, make sure you don't include seeds from fruits and veggies and no diseased plants or weeds from the garden. Also, make sure your contained is covered, but well aerated and turn it frequently so it breaks down faster. Unfortunately, I have all kinds of space to compost, but we also have black bear looking for food. He destroyed my composter again this year.
