We plant our herbs in raised boxes right outside our backdoor from the kitchen. That way they are handy to cut when we need them.  We plant basil,  sage, thyme, flat and curly leaf parsley, dill, oregano, and  chives are planted in the ground.

I used to have great success with herbs when I lived in So Cal but since moving to the PNW I have tried many times with terrible results.   I love tarragon and basil.  No success with either one here.  I do have a pot with chives and thyme in it but that looks pretty bad.  I buy the large basil plants that Trader Joe's sells to get fresh basil.

I grow both garlic & hollow chives, Greek oregano, dill, Genovese basil, cilantro, & flat leaf parsley.

I grew the oregano for the first time last summer, & was surprised how much I LOVED it! I dried all of mine, & it's wonderful in so many dishes.

I'm going to dry a little of all my herbs this year.

I grow both chives because the garlic chives grow VERY fast. The hollow chives grow super-slow & are usually best the second season (but I just love them!)

I love the flavor profile of chives, I started these seeds in a makeshift growhouse inside....

SydneyH-

The scent of freshly snipped chives is just heavenly! I ate some today, & they were wonderful.  Heart

I also live in the PNW. I start organic Genovese basil seeds indoors, & they grow like CRAZY. Once the weather warms, I put them outside. I started my seeds in late June last year (SO late), & put them out in early July. They grew immediately, & were big & healthy. I put them in large planter pots, & they really loved that.

So, I 'require' more information, lol.  How do you use them?  I don't know what to do if this actually grows, lol.

@SydneyH, I use the garlic chives in my homemade buttermilk dressing, and snipped in a green salad.

I did not plant them; I have worked at nurseries for years and this appeared in a pot along with something else I had planted. I've now kept it for at least a decade in a container in which I also plant morning glories to crawl up my garage.

The flowers are lovely, and the dried seed heads are nice, too.  I've found the plant dispersed through my garden beds as well (love that).  I think it is because ants go after the elaiosomes (seed coat) to feed their nest and then drop the seed in their "compost" heap.

Happy seed starting!🌱
