I watch the Garden Shows the Q brings and I ordered some plants for my yards to make them look pretty. Of course I spend a few dollars but I feel uneasy with so many folks in need these days. The hurricane victis, fire victims, the elderly and unemployed, etc. I feel that my money might help in a very small way if I used it for their plights.
What do you think?

Do you contribute to charities anyway? Don't see the connection between buying some plants for your home and donating to help others unless both can't be done. Do whatever makes you happy.

@Puzzle Piece I understand where you are coming from. Yes, sometimes I rethink a purchase and then donate to my favorite charity. I know they help people, boots on the ground, and give them labor help, food, laundry facilities and compassion.
I think your money and especially your kindness would help in a big way, and help you as much as them in the big picture. Bless you for thinking that way!

Even if there are no major catastrophies going on, there are always people who are suffering. You can drive yourself crazy with guilt all of the time....give what you can.
I think if it makes you happy to do what you want to do to brighten up your garden, look at it as brigtening up your life. That among other things can help with keeping your health in a good place.

You cold probably cancel your order and spend the money on the charity of your choice. Plants won't be sent out until spring. They don't charge your credit card until they ship, so maybe you could do both.

I think you should do what you feel in your heart is the right thing to do for you.
Take in to consideration what you can afford and go from there.

I do both. I donate to several human and animal charities/organizations and if there is something I like and lifts my spirits, I buy it. I have been doing this for a long time, I only wish I could do more and if I had the money I would.
If making your garden look pretty gives you a good feeling then do so. You can still help others in different ways and anything you give is appreciated.

Please plant a garden this year.
I think that looking at just dirt in your garden this spring/summer will be very depressing. It won't help anyone.
You can not cure all the problems that people are dealing with. So maybe volunteer at a food bank or some other charity. But also plant a garden. You and your neighbors will enjoy seeing it for months.

Sounds like a martyr complex may be at play?? Not healthy if it is.
Or is it because you haven't donated to charity in the past and feel guilty with so many in need? If that's the case, then maybe you're being nudged to change your ways?
If your money donations aren't going to orgs that give most/all to the cause, it's wasted anyway.
There are more ways to donate then money. Time, talents...
Why not split it up? It doesn't have to be either/or.
