@LTT1 Fall in the Maritime Provinces (Canada) is usually blustery.  There is a special kind of calm on these quiet days.  I enjoy each one of them as we prep for the coming winter.

@Kachina624 Yes, the garden clean up is a chore.  Over the past ten years I have been shifting my garden over more to shrubbery to make the maintenance easier.  It is not the garden clean up I hate but the leaves.  The price of being surrounded by mature deciduous trees!

@Lilysmom1.  Those clouds look ominous.   This is the time of year when I'm glad I don't have a garden.

@Kachina624

My yard got so OVERGROWN in the heat that I could barely open the back door.    Finally got out there in the middle of the night...and HACKED IT ALL DOWN.

Six contractor's bags full, and I had trouble hauling them out to the curb.     Maybe it's time I should check into the old folks home.....     di

@spiderw @Puggywuggy @Kachina624 @luvzchiz @DSD2  et al, thanks for your replies.

I had my last swim Sunday on our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.  It was cool but I normally swim each year til Thanksgiving.  Coming out of the water, I looked down and saw a baby snapping turtle.   No bigger than 2".  Amazing I even saw it.  Lakeside living can be interesting!

I don't post many photos anymore because the process has become too cumbersome.

Here is a shot of what I saw...

@Desertdi Six bags, wow.  Good for you!  Working in the heat makes it so much harder.  We had a frost for the first time last night.  The heat is on this morning and I have the fireplace going.

My compost pile is huge.  I did a major edit on the middle bank and took out three shrubs (globe spruce 6' tall, hydrangea tree 9' tall, dapple willow 12' tall).  It startled with one, which grew to 2 and then 3.  I am dangerous when I get going lol.

Now I can spend the winter planning what to replace them with!

Of course you WILL replace them!     So will I.    It's in a gardener's blood....(and my grandpa was a farmer).       di

@Lilysmom1.  Wow, what a tiny snapper.  I've seen full-grown ones and wouldn't want an encounter.  They definitely have an attitude problem.

What a tiny little snapper! They are cute when they are that size but when they are grown...yikes!
