Do any of you have a pomegranate tree? I saw that the blooms attract hummingbirds.

@YogaGal Enjoy one for me. My husband saw that a researcher said they would grow in our area. The researcher said they attract hummingbirds. I thought they were more tropical than West Texas. We can get mighty cold in the winter. We will investigate further.

@On It it's more desert here in San Diego and not tropical so they might be okay in West Texas but not sure. We can get 'cold' nights here but never freezing temps. Good luck!

They are not a tropical tree. They prefer a climate like Greece or the mid-east countries. I live in a "desert" area in California and we have had Pom trees for decades growing on various properties. They lose their leaves and go dormant in winter. We have temps that get below freezing and they are fine and in summer we have high temps and they are fine. They do not need a lot of water and will produce fruit within the first 2 years of planting. I consider it one of the hardiest fruit trees you can plant. Low maintenance.

@kaiwahini That is encouraging news. We are arid to semi-arid with hot summers and erratic winters where temps vary from freezing to warm in a matter of a few days. My husband may be growing pomegranates soon. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Those are beautiful!
My mother used to buy them and taught us how to eat the wonderful seeds. I remember them as being fun and a little sour but we liked them. She was a very good cook and we always ate healthy things as long as I can remember.
It must be so neat to have a tree that bears fruit in your own yard.
