I live in SoCal and have poor quality clay soil. I bought these last year and they died aborning. I bought again this year and kept them on my patio in their little pots for about a month. I then planted them in full sun and use the Richard Johnson plant food. They are about 2-3 feet high and have lovely blooms. The blooms are smaller than my regular size butterfly bush but the 3 colors are very nice. The butterflies and humminbirds seem to like them.
I do agree that one should buy plants locally. However, I could not find the dwarf tricolor plants in my area.
