return the old one.
test it out immediately.
@sunshine45 are you suggesting the OP pull a scam on Amazon?
if you want to call it that, then yes.
she should have used the item before the return policy expired.
however, if it is not working properly from the start, i would order a new one.....the exact same item......and return the original one.

@sunshine45 well that is not right and also illegal.

Your right, a social media review will get you a response.... For example, I failed to get help on a technology problem with my internet from the company when I spoke to their phone Customer Service Representative. I googled and found a customer based forum that answered my question and solved my problem so easily! So I wrote a google review for the IT company, I was polite, but explained my problem and frustration and said their Reps needed more training. not only did I get a response, but also a $20 credit on my bill! Companies are very sensitive when it comes to social media, while they tend to ignore emails or snail mail!!!

Yeah. Companies get buried alive in emails and even snail mail. Then you have the lunatics who'll send loose baby powder, flour, or something similar in a letter, shutting down the company while a hazmat team comes in to determine what it is and if it's dangerous. A lot of companies immediately trash any incoming snail mail that they aren't expecting to avoid those issues.
Social media is still a relatively safe place for companies, so they put their resources there. If you have an issue, and they have a social media presence, and almost everyone does these days, that's where you'll most likely get a response.

A couple of years ago I bought a Snow Joe small snow blower to use on my front steps in the winter.
Assembly was impossible because the stem of the blower had two pieces that had to fit together and the power cord inside made it impossible to get the pin that held them together to secure into place. Plus, the blower on the bottom was so heavy that the aluminum stem was likely to break because of the force put on it when dealing with moving snow.
I tried and tried to get the pin in to lock the stem pieces together and had a strong male friend who was handy with stuff like this to try and he couldn't get the stem to lock either.
I finally just gave to him because he had some workers who might be able to jerry-rig screwiing other pins in to lock it.
I had no use for it, and I've never bought another thing from that company

@DJs mom I don't see that as a "scam". I see that as a fair exchange for an item that stopped working when it should not have;
To me the scam is selling a defective item and not making it right for the customer.

I have a Snow Joe snow blower and love it. I did have an issue with the battery charger about a year after I purchased it and called Snow Joe's customer service team and they mailed me a new charger - very simple and easy experience.
However, this probably was about 3 or 4 years ago, so I guess things could have changed.
