Re: Beware of Fake Spider Webs for Halloween!

We have deer, raccoons, foxes and sometimes wild turkeys roaming around the neighborhood. Some areas have bears but not where I live. The deer are what get tangled in yard decor the most.

Re: Beware of Fake Spider Webs for Halloween!

Well, apparently in my neck of the woods, fake web is NOT an issue w/all the wild animals around we have around here.

In fact my county has Holloween contests on which neighborhood has the scarest houses.  Almost all are covered in fake web that would put Spiderman to shame.

If it was so dangerous, our local news would have reported it as well as all the local & county newspapers.  I would assume the national news too.  Reason why I do not believe it.  Maybe it's regional.

Re: Beware of Fake Spider Webs for Halloween!

i don't think birds, bees et al. are regional.

other reasons not to buy fake webs:

made from plastic

most if not all made in china

winds up in landfills, which leech into our water and food supply.

now if. people want to make a web out of cotton string,  YAY!!!  at least that can be composted!

@Mz iMac  It's always good to be skeptical, but I'm seeing it posted as true on news outlets and various gardening magazines.

I believe it, as it's common sense to me.

@hkrgrl  I think it's possible the birds could still get stuck in a cotton web, but they might be able to get themselves out. Still, I think it's best to not put up any webs. I stopped putting up bird netting over my tomatoes, because the birds still got in and couldn't get out.

@PA Mom-mom

oh i def. agree with you about all type of webs but usually the cotton ones are large scale vs. the cheap bag of 'webs' which u stretch out over bushes.

That is a sad picture to see.

Never thought about that.

I have birds everyday at my house and feeder. Don't decorate with any fake

webs like that for Halloween.

I still cut up these plastics that come with drinks before I throw them away.

I remember stories about birds and other animals possibly getting trapped in

these from years ago.
