Beware of Fake Spider Webs for Halloween!

[ Edited ]

I saw this post on the Maryland Birdwatchers and Identification Group FB page.

The fake spiderwebs apparently trap birds, bees and butterflies. It never occurred to me. I see lots of these on shrubs around Halloween.

I don't believe it.  Never heard of this danger on the local or national news fake or legit.

Any kind of outdoor decorations can be a problem for wildlife. Our Department of Parks and Wildlife just put out an announcement warning about it especially now with the holidays approaching. But it should be for always and not just during the holidays.

@Mz iMac  It's always good to be skeptical, but I'm seeing it posted as true on news outlets and various gardening magazines.

I've been seeing warnings for the last couple of years.  I don't need fake spider webs.  I have one spider that manages to build a web that spans the hollies on either side of the front porch.  No idea how she does it.  That's quite a distance to jump.  Man, I hate walking into it.

@Mz iMac @Why would someone lie about this?  I would rather err on the side of saving innocent animals.

@spumoni99  Hey, a little skepticism is a healthy thing; but, I also wonder why anyone would make this up. It's always good to double-check, and I did. It's a real thing!

The real webs are bad enough.  I've had to rescue a hummingbird tangled in a spider web.

I've seen the warnings about fake webs.

Let's air on the side of caution.  Are fake spider webs really a necessity?

I don't doubt this could be an issue in some area.

In my neck of the woods, I don't see many birds, bees, or butterflies at the end of October. I see Halloween decorations come down within a couple of days. I'm not going to negatively judge people for their short term use.
