This topic made me think about how things have changed for me. I worked for years in senior level management and as a professional that required business dress every day. I now work part time in my own small business where I can work at home most days, but still wear suits occassionally. So my idea of re-freshing my clothes now mostly means changing to different needs. I am donating a lot of suits and heels (very nice ones) and buying less. I actually felt lost in Nordstrom Rack today trying to decide if I needed anything and ended up with an UD eye primer. But, I seriously shopped at Cabella's next door for a carry holster. So re-freshing takes on a new meaning for me. I still like to add seasonal colors in one or two tops, but buying multiples of things like white tees doesn't happen.

I do clear out my closet 2-3 times a year ... I have little sentiment about my clothing. Some items I give to my sis as she does not spend money on herself. Other items I donate.
My refresh would include tanks and tees...running gear and sandals. I do enjoy adding new items that are pretty, but not trendy. I do have the 1 out for 1 in rule. I have quite a few clothes...but my walk-in is only 1/2 used and I have lots of space in that closet if I ever did go nuts.
I have to ay I wish my whites didn't go gray. I think part of the problem has to do with water.

I am guessing you start mid September?
I hope you don't have to make another move this year, since that can add to your workload💐
It can be warm (80s-90s) but we have AC. The problem is standing outside for 30 minutes in the a.m. sweating before class. I won't be moving (knock on wood) again for next year. We actually report August 15 for fall (one year it was August 14).

I like to have a few new things for spring/summer and again in fall/winter. I try to shop early in the season and be done with it. Right now, I'm done till fall (unless something irresistible comes my way lol).
I don't think I'm an accumulator. I'm pretty ruthless about weeding out old stuff. In fact, I enjoy paring down, and donating clothing.

I enjoy shopping for clothes and now that my daughter is grown up ( and I'm having difficulty keeping up with what she likes/dislikes) I now shop for myself!
I rarely get rid of things (unless they're basically destroyed) and I have garments from the 80s and 90s in my closet (no not overflowing with those decades!)
I even had a concert shirt from the late 70s but my daughter obsconded with that!

I do refresh my wardrobe. My white tee shirts and 3 quarter length shirts get yellow stains under in the armpits every year so I buy a few white tees in tanks, short-sleeved, long ect. to replace the ones that are too dingy to where.
I also make sure all of my clothing still fits. I never go out of three pounds so that is not too much of an issue, but if I am tired of something and it is in perfect condition I pass it on to our church who give the clothing to the homeless and the mentally ill who go to the hospital in distress and sometimes do not have clothing to wear when they leave the hospital. Any of my clothes that are in poor condition I used as rags or my husband uses in his shop.
I wear 90% classic clothes and I add 10% of an updated look such as a tee shirts. I also buy quality LLBean, JJill, Talbots, and I still like Denim & Co. for some items too. Chicos has the sexiest and most up to date pants that fit me really well. I don't know why because most of their polyester tops are terrible quality, but for me, there it is. As for the way I spend my money, I have no debt and pay of my visa every two weeks. I would never go into debt to purchase fashion of any kind.
Oh, I also have my own walk in closet, but it is not as large as the ones I have heard described by some here. I keep clothes that are in the season in my closet and the rest I store in a dresser in my guest room. It helps me to only see the season of clothes that I am in or I feel overwhelmed.
I also wear only my colors. I am a soft summer (neutral cool) and I only wear these colors so everything I own mixes and matches very well and I look good in these colors. Anyway those are my musings for today.

I know what you are saying about buying multiples. I hear the same people saying this year after year. I keep thinking when do you have time to wear all this. I take stock of my wardrobe every season and see what is missing - it may be perfect shirt for under a jacket or the right color t-shirt for another outfit. I try to find those items. Once in a great while I will buy multiples - recently found a really good sale on silk shirts so got four. I keep a donate box going always. This morning I took a large box of clothes to Goodwill.

Twice a year I go to my closet and put away the winter clothes, get out the warmer season tops and bottoms, same when summer is ending. I tend to refresh more for summer clothes because I have less of them, so once in a while when I have the money, I will buy mostly tops and capris. One thing I do not own enough of is dresses and skirts, but when the weather here in northern Maryland gets very hot and humid, occasionally I will wear a dress or a skirt with a cool top. I do go through my bins and see what I no longer wear, and either I will donate or give away to women I know who wear my size. I try to keep my clothes in very good condition. Because I'm very plus sized (3X), it's hard to find decent clothing so I hang on to as much as I can.

I'm enjoying reading the replies from you ladies. I can relate to those of you who feel some sentimental attachment to your clothing. I tend to hold on to some pieces, even though they're seldom worn, for that reason. I guess for me, some items transport me to a place or time that I remember fondly (like a fragrance can do) making it difficult to get rid of them. On the other hand, I can still hear my dear mother saying, "You've only got one body to dress! What do you need so many clothes for?" And then I start going through my closet, looking for a way to thin it out, but it's hard. I wish I was like some of you who can ruthlessly purge your wardrobe because that would give me an excuse to "refresh" mine! As it is, as one poster mentioned, I do a one in, one out deal, to keep from accumulating too much. Sometimes it's hard to find an item I want to part with, though, but this is easier for me than doing a mass purge!

I tend to buy clothes for 2 reasons - either because I love an item and want to own it or because I have worn something out and NEED to replace it.For instance my black tee shirt was getting very faded so it went to the wear it to do housework pile and I bought a new one.My closet is far from too full and I do not always throw something away for every item purchased. I do keep my clothes from season to season.
