I am finding the Pantone color of the year idea fun!

One cannot find a "Radiant Orchid" turtleneck anywhere online... light purple, etc. you name it, if it is in that color, it is now gone. It seems to take awhile for colors to catch on.

It is difficult (often) to find colors that are flattering. I am so excited that the color last year and the color this year are colors that I can wear. Here is the purse color that is so great... don't know what color it fits into, but it is purple...

What color would you call this... would it be in the category of "marsala?" TIA

My local Lowes still has a big display including poster, in the paint department of Radiant Orchid. Sometimes I wonder how many gallons they were prepped to sell.

QVC and every other shopping channel has done that since shopping channels were invented. It is amusing that no one seems to really know what "marsala" is. So, all the hosts are saying that the color of the year is maroon or burgundy or wine or cranberry or even fushia....anything in the "marsala" family of colors. I like the color for fall/winter and I've noticed that a lot of the show hosts are already wearing on their lips but it's not a color that I would wear in warm weather.

The Pantone color of the year is simply a marketing campaign used by many businesses. It doesn't really mean anything. By coming out with a new (and often ugly) color each year, businesses can use this to sell new product - "Oh you simply MUST have the color of the year!"

The marsala color this year is not as bad for clothes as the past two - green and violet. QVC usually hawks this for a month or two, then it stops because they are not flattering colors. The Sephora vivid eye shadows always end up on clearance, same reason. Have you seen the red eye shadow this year? Who looks good with red eyelids? Vampires?

Q has pushed the Pantone color for years. I remember the year it was some shade of yellow, one year it was honeysuckle and let's not forget the tangerine tango they pushed and pushed and pushed before the emerald green.

I don't necessarily think Marsala is a bad color for fall/winter but it's not a spring/summer color but last years Pantone color wasn't a fall/winter color IMO.

I don't think the make-up would look good on my coloring but I think it might look beautiful on a darker skintone. I would do a nail color though in marsala.

The problem is Q will pick out anything remotely close and claim it's the must-have color even though it's not even close.

So true

I bought the Sephora lipstick and blush set and they are very wearable

My guess would be maroon or burgundy. An odd choice for Pantone color of the year, IMHO.

I agree. Especially for spring/summer?

My high school colors (eons ago) were maroon & white...to this day, burgundy's of most shades just remind me of that (which was fine then but now seems dated.) Not my favorite color anyway.

I do like a brick red shade, but won't be wearing an over abundance of it in the seasons to come this year.

I loved the radiant orchid and as a medium skin-toned blonde it is a good color for me. I bought the Sephora Pantone lipstick in radiant orchid and love it. It's bright and definitely summer but I got a lot of compliments on it when I wore it. For me it was not a bad color.

I'd not want that shade in my house and I'd not wear eyeshadow in that color though.
